Decoding Dyslexia CA believes in a future where every learner is seen, valued, and empowered. While we remain deeply concerned by harmful rhetoric that reinforces inaccurate and stigmatizing stereotypes, we are even more committed to advancing a narrative grounded in truth, respect, and possibility.
A dyslexic brain is not a limitation; it is a powerful and unique way of experiencing the world. Decades of neurobiological research affirm that dyslexia is a language-based processing difference, not a reflection of intelligence. With as many as 1 in 5 individuals exhibiting characteristics of dyslexia, these individuals are an essential and vibrant part of every classroom, workplace, and community. Individuals with dyslexia often bring exceptional strengths, such as creativity, resilience, problem-solving, and big-picture thinking, which are the very qualities that define innovators and leaders.
Decoding Dyslexia CA envisions an educational system where all students with dyslexia gain the literacy skills and confidence they need to fully realize their potential. We advocate for explicit, evidence-based instruction delivered by teachers trained in the Science of Reading.
We also believe in early identification of students at risk of reading difficulties, including dyslexia, to provide timely, targeted support. This is why we successfully advocated for universal screening, which is in its first year of implementation for all K–2 students in California public schools.
If your child is struggling to read, they may have dyslexia. With the right instruction, progress is possible.
We invite you to join our grassroots movement. Connect with a local DDCA support group or attend an upcoming simulation to experience how we can, together, empower dyslexic learners to thrive.
