Dyslexia Simulation Workshop (no cost to participants)
Through an interactive and engaging experience, attendees will gain a deeper understanding of the social and emotional impact that people with dyslexia may face.
- Context & Impact: As many as 20% of the population as a whole – have some of the symptoms of dyslexia, including slow or inaccurate reading, poor spelling, poor writing, or mixing up similar words. Learn key statistics about dyslexia in California explore how brain development affects literacy acquisition, and why many students remain undiagnosed or misunderstood.
- Immersive Activities: Participate in four hands-on simulation exercises that replicate the frustration, fatigue, and resilience students experience when reading, writing, spelling, and processing information. Each activity includes anecdotes and guided discussion to connect the experience with classroom practice.
- Reflection & Discussion: Explore how families, classrooms and communities are impacted by dyslexia.
- Resources & Tools: Leave with research-based resources and practical strategies to support students with reading difficulties.
By the end of the session, attendees will walk away with greater empathy, actionable insights, and concrete tools to foster a more inclusive learning environment.
These simulations can be conducted throughout the State of California.
