September 20, 2016 – Decoding Dyslexia CA Los Angeles Regional Leaders Pam Cohen & Sherry Rubalcava collaborated with the Los Angeles Branch of the International Dyslexia Association’s President, Mara Wiesen and Vice-President, Lauren Quient. Together they petitioned Los Angeles Unified School Board members Mr. Schmerelson, Mr. Ziimer, & Dr. McKenna to draft a dyslexia resolution to recognize October as Dyslexia Awareness Month.
During the September 20th board meeting Res-023-16/17 was presented to the LAUSD School Board. Read the full text here . We applaud the LAUSD Board for bringing forth such an important initiative.
Families from LAUSD joined DDCA and IDA to support the adoption of the resolution. The LAUSD School Board heard heartfelt testimony from Maria Ortiz (ELAC Parent Rep), Christina Garcia (Parent), Adrian Garcia (Student), Leigh Jacoby (Parent), Martin Velasquez (Student), and Enrique Velasquez (Parent).
