Is your district ready to start screening for risk of reading difficulties, including dyslexia?
Starting in the 2025-26 school year, all districts in California are required to screen K-2 students for risk of reading difficulties, including dyslexia. Now is the time for your district to start planning!
On December 16, 2024, the California Department of Education approved a list of screeners from which districts are required to choose. Districts need to select, at a public meeting, one or more screening instruments by June 30, 2025. They also need to define administration logistics (including clear guidelines for English learners) and develop the processes for interpreting results and supporting students identified as at risk.
